Opening Hours

Opening Arrangements: The Education Centre operates Monday to Friday, throughout the year. Booking is essential.

The Information Office is open seasonally:
May - September: Open Daily 10:00 hrs - 17:30 hrs
October: Weekends only 10:00 hrs  - 17:30hrs, or dusk if earlier
November - January: Weekends only 10.00 - 16.00.

February - April: Weekends only 10.00 - 17.00

(The office is also open during school holidays at Easter and Christmas)

Admission Fees



The Information Office has hands-on exhibitions and a staff member to answer questions.
A series of way-marked walking trails guides visitors on routes of 30 minutes to four hours. Some of these are wheelchair friendly. Maps are sold in the Information Office.
The only toilets are those in the car park.

Restaurant/Tearooms: A shop in the car park sells chips, ice creams, etc.
Picnic tables are present near the lawns.

Please note barbeques are not permitted.

Wicklow Mountains National Park covers much of upland Wicklow, and contains an area of nearly 20,000 hectares. The National Park provides protection for landscapes and wildlife. Important habitats include native woodland, such as the oakwoods at Glendalough, and large areas of blanket bog, including the Lugnaquila and Liffey Head Bog complexes.

The Information Office for the National Park, and the Education Centre are both located in Glendalough near the Upper Lake. The Education Centre focuses on nature awareness, conservation, and ecology. It hosts a range of courses and tours for school children, students and other groups. The Centre is accessible for people with disabilities.

Location: From Laragh, take the road to Glendalough. Keep going past the Glendalough Visitor Centre & Monastic City, and past the Glendalough hotel. At the end of the road is a car park (€4 charge). Park here. Follow the signs to The Education Centre (a short walk up the Miner's Road), or to the Information Office.

Bus Route: The St. Kevin's Bus service operates from Dublin City to Glendalough. (see their website).

Guided Tours: Telephone the Education Centre to arrange an education tour or specialised visit.   

Leaflet/Guide book: A range of National Park leaflets on a variety of topics are sold in the Information Office. All in English.

Seasonal Events: A series of events is hosted annually. A list of events may be picked up in the Information Office, or found on the website.

Photography / Video allowed: Yes

Additional Information: The National Park is a protected area and visitors are urged to follow Leave No Trace principals. In particular, take all your litter home with you, and do not pick plants and flowers, or take other natural things home with you.
