Join us for a very special afternoon of Indian Classical music featuring sitar maestro Shakir Khan, and a Tabla Trio featuring Debajoyti Sanyal (Kolkata, India), Rupak Pandit (Wexford) and Nitin Prabhakar (Dublin).

As the eighth-generation torchbearer of a distinguished musical lineage, Shakir Khan carries forward a rich tradition of sitar and surbahar. With a deep command of Sur (melody) and Laya (rhythm), Shakir’s performances captivate audiences worldwide. His artistry extends beyond classical music, seamlessly blending into international fusion projects such as the European Jazz Ensemble (Germany) and Human Evolution (Spain). Shakir has graced prestigious festivals including Dover Lane Music Conference (Kolkata), Sawai Gandharva Festival (Pune), Saptak Festival (Ahmedabad), Bombay Festival, Tansen Music Festival (Gwalior), and Shankarlal Music Festival (Delhi). He has also performed extensively across the US, Canada, and Europe, including a celebrated appearance at Woodstock Festival, Poland (2008).

Recognized for his contributions to Indian classical music, Shakir has received several accolades, including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2023, Sangeet Natak Akademi), Guruvarya B.S. Upadhyay Memorial Award (2013), Shri Ram Murti Pratibha Alankaran Award (2021), and Padmanabha Charities Vidyasagar Award (2008). A brilliant performer and dedicated mentor, Shakir Khan continues to enchant audiences worldwide with the depth, elegance, and innovation of his music.

Tabla Trio: A Tribute to Ustad Zakir Hussain

In this special tribute, three distinguished tabla artists, Debajoyti Sanyal (Kolkata), Rupak Pandit (Gorey) and Nitin Prabhakar (Dublin) will come together to present a Tabla Trio, celebrating the legacy of Ustad Zakir Hussain. Their performance will showcase the intricate nuances of the tabla repertoire, including Peshkaar, Kaydas, Gats, and Relas, and culminating with Tukdas and Bandishes. The trio will be accompanied by a harmonium player, who will provide melodic support while maintaining the rhythmic cycle.
