Join Tour Guide Stephanie on a series of Pop-Up Talks in St Patrick’s Hall this April!
During these talks, Stephanie will discuss the history of the four garments on display, which were recently conserved by Karen Horton (textile conservator). Visitors will learn about the Order of St Patrick, the historical significance of St Patrick’s Hall in the context of knights’ investitures, and relevant paintings in the room by Casimir Dunin Markievicz and Vincenzo Waldre. Stephanie will break down the components of each garment, including the gold and silver threaded cordons, the ceremonial hoods, the ‘star’ of St Patrick, the shoulder ‘ribbons’ AND the materials (silk sateen, silk taffeta, ribbed silk etc) on display.
Visitors will learn about the wonderful work of Karen Horton (textile conservator), specifically in relation to the conservation of these delicate garments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn about the stories behind these celestial blue robes, and the companies involved in their making!
Talks will run across three Wednesdays, the 16th, 23rd, and the 30th of April.
