As part of Heritage Week, Athenry Castle is delighted to announce that Paul Burke will be attending on 16th August 2026.

Paul Burke has represented Ireland in archery. He will be giving demonstrations, talks and  instructions to  visitors in 'have a go' archery.

This FREE and fun filled day at Athenry Castle is always an extremely popular day.

The event will showcase how powerful the weapon was. Within the castle the visitor can view the medieval shield which was the main protection from the arrows. Visitors can view the arrow slits in the castle and on the grounds and see the vantage points of defender and attacker.  Opportunity will be also given to investigate the various defensive features of the castle and how the inhabitants lived, fought and traded.
