For the Love of the Master is an exhibition running from 19th July to 18th September 2022 featuring 25 contemporary artists fascinated by the work of etcher, designer, architect and theorist Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Originally due to take place in 2020 to commemorate the tercentenary of Giovanni’s birth in Mogliano near Venice, Italy, the exhibition was curated by Helene Bremer and Mary Heffernan with the assistance of Matt Smit and features 3D printing, sculpture, jewellery, painting, collage and ceramics. It is shared between the Casino in Marino Dublin and the Coach House Gallery in Dublin Castle and admission is free.
The Casino is Ireland’s finest example of neoclassical architecture designed by Sir William Chambers in the 18th century for James Caufeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont, who was an acquaintance of Piranesi and famously ‘almost’ his patron, having met him in Rome during his Grand Tour between 1746 and 1754. The Casino is open daily from 10am to 4.30pm (last entry) and booking only necessary if there are more than 10 people in your group. The Casino itself offers free guided tours at 11am and 2pm and otherwise is free to self-guide throughout the day.
