National Heritage Week is an initiative from the Heritage Council, which celebrates Ireland’s natural, built, and cultural heritage.
The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Living Heritage’, which encompasses the rituals, traditions and knowledge passed from generation to generation which over time define a community’s culture and history.
Saturday 12th August.
In keeping with Heritage Week 2023’s theme of traditions and skills, the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre's living history displays will include an Irish Coin maker, a Musketeer, a 17th-century Barber Surgeon and Drill Sergeant, who will be looking for some young new recruits. At 2pm there will also be a Battle site Walk, weather permitting.
Displays from 11am to 4pm in the Visitor Centre.
Sunday 13th August
An OPW Guide will deliver a new tour on 17th Century Field Medicine. Starting at 2pm from the Visitor Centre.
