Come along and enjoy the haunting sounds of the medieval Irish harp in the historic surroundings of the hall in one of Ireland’s best-preserved medieval towerhouses.
The Irish harp has a history stretching back at least 1000 years and is an instrument that is closely associated with the homes of the Gaelic elite where it provided entertainment for centuries. The music of the harp was undoubtedly heard in the hall at Aughnanure Castle during the 15th and 16th centuries, providing entertainment for generations of O’Flahertys, the Gaelic lords of Iarchonnacht.
Natalie Surina lives locally in Oughterard and hand-crafts harps of native Irish timbers, locally sourced when possible, and strung with hand-drawn strings.
