Cé go bhfaca sí idir scrios agus fás thar na céadta bliain tháinig sí slán le bheith mar chuid lárnach de oidhreacht Chontae Shligigh. Nuair a bhunaíodh i ins an triú céad déag ba í an Ghaeilge teanga na ndaoine agus, go deimhin, mhair an Ghaeilge mar theanga bheo anseo ar feadh cúig chéad bliain eile.
Chun é seo a aithint agus a cheiliúradh, beidh turas treoraithe ar fáil mar chuid den tseachtain oidhreachta.

Sligo Abbey has been at the heart of life since its foundation in 1252. Witness to destruction as well as growth over the centuries, it has endured to become an essential part of the heritage of County Sligo. At the time of its foundation in the 13th Century, Irish was the language most widely spoken in County Sligo, and indeed for at least the next five centuries of its existence.
To acknowledge and celebrate this, a guided tour in Irish will be given as part of heritage week.
