Tibradden Cairn

Situated on the summit of Tibradden Mountain, Tibradden Cairn has stunning views over Dublin Bay and the City. First excavated in 1849, it was found to be a Bronze Age cairn with a centrally-placed cist and partially lintelled passage.

A burial urn was found within the cairn, and is now in the National Museum.

Tibradden in Irish ‘Tigh Bródáin’ is said to mean Brodáin’s House, a possible reference to the cairn.

One folklore account, recorded on dúchas, claims that Tibradden Cairn is the burial place of Niall Dhú – a High King of Ireland from AD916 – 919.
