Loughcrew Megalithic Cemetery

The spring equinox is on March 20th. For us in the Northern Hemisphere, spring arrives while south of the equator, autumn begins. 5000 years ago, the builders of the monument known as Cairn T at Loughcrew aligned their tomb to sunrise at the equinoxes. The Office of Public Works will have staff on site for dawn from 6:00am on March 20th (Monday). Cairn T remains closed but all are welcome to join us to celebrate the beginning of Spring.
Please note that the climb to the top of the hill is steep. Please wear sensible footwear and dress for the weather. Dogs should be kept on leads.
