Prehistoric monuments
Our prehistoric monuments include Stone Age tombs and royal burial mounds, great ringforts and places of ceremonial inauguration. They are justly famous throughout the world.
Newgrange was built some five millennia ago to embrace the mysteries of the solstice sunrise; Knowth contains the world’s largest collection of Neolithic art; Céide Fields, is quite simply the most extensive Stone Age monument in the world. Thousands now flock to these momentous sites to experience their atmosphere of ancient ritual and ceremony.
Our award-winning visitor centres will guide you through the epic mythology, archaeology and history to be found in these magical places.
