Royal Hospital Kilmainham

The bully's acre cemetery

The Roya Hospital Kilmainham is currently home to three cemeteries, two military and one civilian. They are the final resting place for thousands, each one with a story to tell and an experience to remember.

This tour takes us through 1,500 years of history ranging from monks, vikings, grave-robbers, revolutionaries all the way to victims of the R.M.S. Leinster. Kilmainham has long been occupied and for a multitude of different reasons. By telling these stories, it help us remember and understand the relationships of the communities, the veterans living here and their connections to each other. Sometimes these connections were good but on other occasions they were for nefarious reasons.
This tour allows us to delve into burial, ritual and loss by looking and discussing several different aspects of life in Kilmainham, Dublin and Ireland over the centuries.

Please note that due to the ground being uneven and grassy, those with mobility issues may not find it fully accessible. The tour is free of charge.
