A special treat at Sligo Abbey during Heritage Week will be a talk by well-known traditional Irish musician, archivist and author, Gregory Daly.

From Gurteen, Co. Sligo, Gregory will give listeners the insight of both a musician and a scholar into Irish music’s rich tradition, particularly the role played by renowned South Sligo masters such Michael Coleman, James Morrision, Paddy Killoran and others.
Gregory, a practitioner of that tradition, will delve into its roots and development, with a special focus on the musicians, their places and times, as well as the key contribution of U.S. recordings in preserving and revitalising the distinctive South Sligo style, part of the rich tapestry that is Irish traditional music today.
Gregory’s talk will conclude with tunes on the flute from himself, and his daughter Ciara who is a guide at Sligo Abbey, and followed by trad-fusion music from Sligo Abbey’s ‘Cloister Boys’ (Abbey guides Barry Mulligan and Harry Keaney). A musical treat, all in perfect harmony with this year’s Heritage Week theme of ‘Foundations’.
