In 2014 a team of archaeologists from Archaeology Plan were contracted by the OPW to excavate a treasure trove of ‘historical refuse’ found at the base of the Southwest flanking tower. Alva was responsible for the cleaning, sorting and of all the artefacts – all 7,000 of them! In her talk for Heritage Week 2025, Alva takes us back in time to reimagine Rathfarnham Castle in the late 17th century and all the various goings on, both upstairs and downstairs.
