Join our knowledgeable OPW Guide on a walk around the grounds of Ormond
Castle and find out about the plants that grow in the lawn and on the walls. Discover how even a small area can contain many species of plants, which in turn support vital pollinators and other small creatures. Learn to identify the plants and find out about the ones, which were used for medicinal purposes and for food.
Discover the importance of allowing wild flowers to blossom on green spaces and see the difference between regularly mown and unmown lawns.
We will also look at the old stone walls and their importance for plants and as nesting places for birds, particularly in urban locations.
The tour will conclude with a walk up into the recently refurbished medieval tower for a view down the tree lined River Suir, a haven for wildlife.
