Through techniques such as tromp l'oeil, neoclassical designers employed tricks to create the illusion of perfectly proportioned rooms, which the newly fashionable neoclassical style demanded.

Join us for a guided tour of the interior of Rathfarnham Castle to see how in the he 1770s, Sir William Chambers and James 'Athenian' Stuart rose to the challenge of transforming the awkwardly shaped rooms of the Elizabethan castle to give the illusion of symmetry, harmony and beauty, making Lord Loftus' Castle at Rathfarnham one of the most elegant houses in the country.

These tours are not suitable for children.
Free.
Booking advisable at rathfarnhamcastle@opw.ie or 01 493 9462.
