From 1604 to 1690, James Fort played a pivotal role in Kinsales history. This first generation star-shaped fort was designed to intimidate and protect the town and harbour of Kinsale. James Fort suffered both from neglect in times of peace and intense damage during wartime sieges. During its short but exciting history, soldiers, adventurers and pirates marched through its gates. Discover their stories and more on this unique opportunity to explore this extraordinary site with a special guided tour by Charles Fort, OPW guide William Butler.

Pre-booking is essential by emailing: charlesfort@opw.ie with a contact number and how many tickets you require. First come first served basis.
Meeting place: In front of the Dock Pub by the walkway leading up to James Fort.
Under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Please be aware of uneven terrain, low lintels and slippery grass areas. Suitable footwear is a must. A good level of mobility is required.
