Heritage Week: National Botanic Gardens National Herbarium Guided Tour

The National Herbarium at the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin contains more than half a million dried and preserved plant and fungi specimens from Ireland and around the world. The Herbarium also houses the Economic Botany collection which comprises plant specimens, such as bark, fruits, leaves, fibres, tubers, as well as plant-derived products and artefacts. These scientifically valuable and historically important collections, dating from centuries past to the present day, contain a wealth of information on plants and the world around us.

To celebrate Heritage Week, come visit us on this tour behind the scenes to see some of the highlights of these unique and irreplaceable collections, learn about the ways that herbarium specimens are used, including their role in research on the global challenges we face in terms of biodiversity loss and climate change, and find out more about the on-going work at the National Herbarium.

The tour will take place on 17th August at 2pm.

Booking is essential at Eventbrite. €5 per person.
