A view of the Customs House Visitor Centre from the banks of the river Liffey

Beth Storey is an expert guide in The Irish Workhouse Centre in Portumna, County
Galway. Her tour participants get a fantastic insight into the horrific conditions people living in the workhouse system had to contend with, and the ultimate price so many residents paid during An Gorta Mór (Great Famine).

She has very kindly agreed to a talk at The Custom House Visitor Centre on the history of the Irish Workhouse system. There will also be a sprinkling of insight into dark tourism too.

This is a very fitting location for the talk, as the building was at one stage, the centre of administration for the workhouse system in Ireland, including during the horrendous Gorta Mór years (Great Famine).
