Back by huge demand, Dublin Bowie Festival in association with the Office of Public Works is delighted to welcome back esteemed rock photographer Denis O’Regan. O’Regan is responsible for some of the most iconic photographic captures of the legendary rock star David Bowie over his long and diverse career. The exhibition will feature photos from Bowie’s ground-breaking world tours and some exclusive never-seen-before images of Bowie at work and at leisure.
Born in London to Irish parents, O’Regan grew up in West London. Inspired by seeing Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust Hammersmith concert in 1973, O’Regan taught himself photography. He resigned his day job, toured Europe on a student rail pass, and returned to London to document the Punk explosion. A major contributor to NME in the late 1970s, O’Regan combined his love of photography and travel in the 1980s when he toured with some of the world’s top rock bands. As official photographer O’Regan toured with Thin Lizzy, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Neil Diamond, Queen, Pink Floyd and KISS. He was also official photographer for Live Aid at Wembley Stadium in 1985, and worked in cooperation with Bob Geldof to produce the record-selling commemorative book. In 2021 on its 150th anniversary, he was honoured to be appointed Artist in Residence at the Royal Albert Hall, the first such appointment in its history.
