Phoenix Park Honey Show & Biodiversity Festival 2024

From bees to trees, there's something for all the family at the 8th annual Honey Show & Phoenix Park Biodiversity Festival which takes place on the grounds of Ashtown Demesne Visitor Centre from the 6-7th September.

 

Kicking off events on Friday, there will be a range of tours in the Ashtown Visitor Centre & the Biodiversity Centre, Knockmaroon.From 7pm there will be a dark sky evening with the Irish Astronomical Society on the grounds of the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre.  Come along for a relaxing evening of stargazing under the expert guidance of experienced astronomers. Please note this event is weather dependant and outdoor clothing is advised.

On Saturday, the Phoenix Park Honey Show takes place from 10am – 4pm on the lawn at Ashtown Castle. Why not come along to see the amazing variety of honey produced in Ireland and hear about the ancient craft of beekeeping from The Federation of Irish Beekeepers Associations. The Honey Show will run in conjunction with a range of biodiversity themed lectures in the visitor centre AV room. Park Superintendent Paul McDonnell will present the History & Biodiversity of the Phoenix Park at 12pm, followed by Jane Faull, UCD on the Fallow Deer of the Park at 1pm, with the Midlands Bird Ringing Group on the Birds of the Park at 2pm.

Brilliant Events face painters will be on the lawn from 11am-4pm to turn your little Princes into a frog, and Princesses into a butterfly for the day.

Tours of the beautifully restored Victorian Walled Garden will take place at 11am and 1pm. Take a stroll along the colourful herbaceous border, admire the Dahlias and marvel at espaliered fruit trees. Tree tours will also take place in the Ashtown Arboretum on the grounds of the Visitor centre at 11am and 2pm. No booking necessary, everyone is welcome.

At the Phoenix Park Biodiversity Centre, Knockmaroon, Forest Bathing will take place at 12pm and 2.30. Booking is essential, Tel: 01 6770095
