The Tory Island Painters

Curated by Jenny Young, Donagh Mac Uidhir, Larry McDonagh, Adrian Kelly, Brian Crowley, Noreen Finnegan

When Derek Hill first came to paint landscapes and seascapes on Tory, a remote island off the Donegal coast, he inspired a group of islanders to take up the brush themselves. The result was a body of work spanning 65 years and comprising a unique record of island life. Other islanders in turn then began to paint, and this new generation has proudly carried the torch of Tory Island folk art into the twenty-first century.
