Archbold’s Castle
This 16th century granite tower house is one of seven that still exist within the town of Dalkey.
It is three storeys tall, and contains a parapet level. The first floor contains a long chamber that is lit by windows that were inserted at a later date. The second floor was considered to be the main area, and contains a fireplace and garderobe.
Within the ground floor, a cross-inscribed stone is re-used as a lintel (support across a window or door), and was likely taken from the nearby St. Begnet’s Church.
