Cloughoughter Castle
Clough Oughter Castle is situated on a very small Island in Lough Oughter, Co. Cavan.
It was built during the Norman conquest of Ireland, circa 1220, by the lords of Meath.
The Castle was probably built on what was a royal Crannog belonging to the O’Reilly clan, who ruled the Gaelic territory of Breifne.
