Join our OPW guide Seamus, as he delves into the fascinating world of the FitzGerald ladies, uncovering the lives of four remarkable women whose influence shaped the course of history.
From the Welsh princess Nest ferch Rhys ancestress to many of the most important historical figures of the following centuries, to the Fair Geraldine, Elizabeth FitzGerald, whose connections at the Tudor Court kept the FitzGeralds influence alive in the aftermath of the Silken Thomas rebellion. Then meet Emily Lennox, the famed Duchess of Leinster who shaped the landscapes of Carton House, and finally Hermione Duncombe, the most beautiful woman of her time whose tragic love story has captivated many.
These four women exemplify how the fortunes of the FitzGeralds were shaped not only by soliders and statesmen, but by the wives, mothers, and sisters working tirelessly behind the scenes
Free admission, booking recommended via phone or maynoothcastle@opw.ie.
