Biodiversity Walk on Ross Island

Dates
16th May
11am - 12pm
2pm - 3pm
Location
Ross Castle
Ross Castle has lain nestled on the banks of Lough Leane since the mid-15th century, an imposing and seemingly unchanging part of the landscape. In truth however, both the building itself and the surrounding woods and water have been subject to major changes throughout those many centuries, politically and ecologically. Join our guide and biodiversity champion Conal Guilfoyle on a guided
walk of Ross Island and explore the natural wonders of the area at present. Delve into the natural history of the site and discuss how we may address the challenges facing Ross Island and Killarney National Park at large in the future.
Two tours lasting approximately one hour each will run on Saturday May 16th at 11am and 2pm, meeting at the Yew tree in the castle courtyard. The tour will all be outdoors. There will be uneven surfaces and exposed roots on the walk so appropriate footwear and waterproof clothing are advised. The walk may be challenging for those with mobility issues and very young children. Places are limited so we recommend booking ahead at rosscastle@opw.ie, although there may be spaces on the day also.
