Doireann Ní Ghríofa’s writing leaps between genres and times, to explore how the past makes itself felt within the present. ‘A Ghost in the Throat’ found an 18th century poet haunting a young mother, leading her through visions of blood, milk, lust, and murder. Written on the rooftop of a free carpark in Ballincollig, it went on to be translated into 20 languages, and was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. Her most recent book is ‘Said the Dead’, which calls up a chorus of living echoes, becoming both history and ghost story.

Rachel Andrews’ essays and criticism have appeared in outlets including the London Review of Books, n+1, Brick literary journal, the Stinging Fly, Longreads, Gorse, Banshee, The White Review, Elephant, Paper Visual Art, theIrish Times and the Dublin Review. In 2018, she was runner up in the inaugural Hubert Butler Essay Prize and in 2017 was shortlisted for the Fitzcarraldo Essay Prize and the Notting Hill Essay Prize. She won the CDS Documentary Essay Prize in 2013.
