This tour offers a unique opportunity to explore the Magazine Fort in the Phoenix Park. Designed by Captain John Corneille and completed in 1736, the Magazine Fort served as a continuous military installation for more then 250 years and was transferred to the Office of Public Works in 1988.

Today the fort is recognized for its exceptional historical, archaeological and architectural significance. It played a pivotal role in Irish history as the target of rain on Easter Monday, 24th of April 1916, an event that signalled the beginning of the Easter Rising.

More than two decades later, on the 23rd of December 1939, the fort was again thrust into the national spotlight during the IRA’s “Christmas Raid.”
