Ross Castle

Ross Island has been made famous worldwide by Ross Castle, the 15th century tower house built there by the O’Donoghue clan, but there is so much more to experience. This Heritage Week, join Ross Castle guide Conal Guilfoyle on a guided tour of the built and natural history of Ross Island. Take in the natural beauty of this corner of Killarney National Park and learn about the ancient history of copper mining in this area. The tour will begin at the castle and culminate at the Bronze Age copper mine at on the banks of Lough Leane dating from circa 2300BC. Weather proof clothing and appropriate footwear are essential as the tour is outdoors and will cover uneven ground in places.
This is a free event as part of our Heritage Week Proramme but pre-booking is advised due to limited numbers. Please email rosscastle@opw.ie to book your space.
