The Irish Farmhouse Cheese movement began almost half a century ago when the late, lamented Veronica Steele created the international award-winning Milleens cheese, on Beara Peninsula, in West Cork.

Skipping to the next peninsula, Veronica taught Jeffa Gill (Durrus Cheese), on Sheep’s Head, and they then taught Giana Ferguson (Gubbeen Cheese) on Mizen, the next peninsula again, the three women together making up Ireland’s first Holy Trinity of Cheese and inspiring a nationwide specialty food movement that transformed Irish dining and eating forever.

We meet the children of those legendary producers who have now taken on the mantle first worn by their incredible mothers. And we also get to taste world class Irish Farmhouse Cheeses!

Presented by Joe McNamee from the Irish Examiner.
