A concert of choral music featuring works from the 16th to the 21st century

Lux Brumalis is a project-based, mixed-voice chamber choir comprising talented young musicians based in Ireland. Formed in October 2023 by its director David Yau, the choir were named Best Overall Choir in RTÉ Lyric FM’s Choirs for Christmas competition in 2023 with their debut performance of Tomás Luis de Victoria’s O Magnum Mysterium.

The ensemble's singers represent a rich variety of musical backgrounds, having drawn experience from different cathedral, youth, and university choirs across Ireland. Outside of their work with Lux Brumalis, members pursue diverse endeavours, with some studying music at third level, others completing university degrees outside of music, and many working in full-time careers.

Lux Brumalis tackles a dynamic repertoire ranging from intricate Renaissance polyphony and expressive Romantic works to modern 21st century contemporary choral music. In addition to live performances, the choir frequently records and releases choral music to streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music.

Their debut EP, Genesis, showcases Renaissance polyphony featuring works by composers such as Victoria, Tallis, and Byrd, while their most recent EP, Radiance, features 20th century Anglican anthems by composers like Parry, Harris and Vaughan Williams.

More recently, the choir marked its first international live performance by touring their concert project Threads of Time to York this past summer.

This concert is presented by the OPW as part of the 2026 Cultural Programme at Rathfarnham Castle. Doors open at 7.30pm and the performance runs from 8pm to 9.30pm.
