Philip Ryan's art exhibition at Portumna Castle Gallery.

Philip Ryan was born in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary in 1960. He attended Limerick School of Art & Design from  1979 to 1983 and graduated with a  degree in Graphic Design, and worked for several years in the Graphic/Sign Design business.

Philip lived in the USA in the mid 1990’s spending a year at the Himalayan Institute for Yoga Science & Philosophy subsequently qualifying as a Yoga Teacher. On returning to Ireland began Painting full-time in 2000.

INFLUENCES:

"My Paintings are based around where l live which is close to Lough Derg on the river Shannon. My love for this area and what it offers in terms of swimming, hiking and boating influences the subject matter of my paintings. Figures immersed in water, woodlands and the history of  this area are what informs my painting practice, constantly returning to these familiar motifs."
