During the Easter Rising the Royal Hospital would play a multitude of roles during the fighting. Not only the headquarters of the British Armed Forces, the Royal Hospital would also be a central command alongside a place for punishment. However, also it would be a place of respite for soldiers and monitoring the fierce fighting occurring at the nearby South Dublin Union.
One of our guides will bring you through all the facets of the Easter Rising and the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. They will discuss different characters attached to the site, their roles, influence and what followed. What we can learn and what has been forgotten.
The meeting spot for the tour is the OPW stand in the central courtyard of the Royal Hospital, beside the entrance to the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
