Indian Classical Music Society Ireland in collaboration with Pearse Museum, OPW presents 'Sacred Strings: An Intimate Evening of Sitar with Shakir Khan'.

Shakir Khan (Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/shakirsitar/, Website: https://www.shakirkhan.in/) lives in India and is one of the most acclaimed young exponents of the legendary Etawah Gharana of Sitar, following in the footsteps of his father and guru, the renowned sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. As the eighth-generation torchbearer of this distinguished musical lineage, Shakir carries forward a rich tradition of Sitar and Surbahar, tracing back to his grandfather Ustad Aziz Khan, great-grandfather Ustad Wahid Khan, and grand-uncle Ustad Vilayat Khan.

With a deep command of sur (melody) and laya (rhythm), Shakir’s performances captivate audiences worldwide. His artistry extends beyond classical music, seamlessly blending into international fusion projects such as the European Jazz Ensemble (Germany) and Human Evolution (Spain). Committed to preserving and sharing his heritage, he founded Swar Setu in memory of his grandfather, training students globally.

Shakir has graced prestigious festivals including Dover Lane Music Conference (Kolkata), Sawai Gandharva Festival (Pune), Saptak Festival (Ahmedabad), Darbar festival (Barbican, London), to name a few. He has also performed extensively across the US, Canada, and Europe, including a celebrated appearance at the Woodstock Festival, Poland (2008). He has been touring Ireland for the last two years performing at prestigious venues like Pearse Museum, Rathfarnham Castle, Civic Theatre in Dublin and Belltable in Limerick.

Recognized for his contributions to Indian classical music, Shakir has received several awards, including the most prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2023.
A brilliant performer and dedicated mentor, Shakir continues to enchant audiences worldwide with the depth, elegance, and innovation of his music.

Accompanying Shakir on the Tabla is Sanatan Shrivastava (Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sanatan.tabla/). Sanatan is a Dublin-based industani classical music, shaped under the guidance of esteemed gurus from the Ajrara and Farrukhabad gharanas. Having performed at prestigious platforms including Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, Gandhi Smriti, All India Radio, and RTÉ Ireland Ceol Le Chéile, he is known for blending deep-rooted classical tradition with versatile collaborations across khayal, thumri, bhajan, sufi, ghazal, and cross-cultural musical projects, actively building artistic connections between Indian and Irish musical communities.
