The Tudor Artisan Hub presents a profound Culture Night event in the Long Gallery, Ormond Castle, honouring 34 forgotten women from Carrick-on-Suir and the Suir Valley, Co. Tipperary, transported to Australia in the 19th century.
Central to this event is the work of Waterford’s Transported Convict Women, A Herstory. Partnering with SETU Library, the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI), and the Roses from the Heart project, the bonnets, research, and stories behind them are now digitally preserved and accessible to a global audience. On the night, they will deliver an insightful overview of their ongoing work and plans.
By day, explore their incredible bonnet exhibition, with QR codes to access digital records. At night, local writers from Writing Changes Lives will read extracts from these records, anchored by a commissioned piece by Shirley O’Shea and live music by local composer Marian Ingoldsby.
