Traditional Music in a traditional setting – special event on Scattery Island

On July 4th we will be welcoming traditional musician Aoife Kelly and her family from Dublin, to her ancestors home the Brennan family cottage on Scattery island, where, many's the tune was played in times past and sets danced on the old flag floor.
It was in this cottage that Aoife's grandfather John Kelly [1912-1989] of Capel Street, Dublin learned a lot of his tunes from his grandmother Mary Brennan. This annual event is a wonderful revival of an island tradition and it is a day that proves very popular with our visitors every year. Also on the day, our OPW guides will lead tours of the 6th century monastic settlement and our Hen Harriers are busy in the skies and are regularly seen flying at this time of the year.
