The Cashel set is a traditional Irish social set dance originating in the mid-Tipperary region, rooted in the 18th & 19th century quadrilles. The set consists of four couples in a two facing two pattern. There are six figures (short dances) within the set, consisting of slides, polkas and hornpipes. Sets are mostly danced at Ceilís. It is a social from of dancing rather than a spectacle form reserved for trained dancers.

Traditional dancing both solo and set are an important part of our cultural heritage. It needs to be protected, encouraged and most importantly practiced in order to keep the tradition alive.

The staff of the Rock of Cashel decided to dance a figure of the Cashel set as most staff had at various times during their lives danced sets before, either in school, trips to the Gaeltacht or college. We have a combination of experienced, not so experienced and novice dancers. Our motto is anyone can dance!

We invite members of the public both dancers and spectators alike to join us at 12pm on Friday 21st of August to enjoy our traditional dance display and maybe take part as well!
