From 1604 to 1690, James Fort played a pivotal role in the history of Kinsale. Designed to both intimidate and protect the town, James Fort suffered neglect in times of peace and intense wartime sieges.
During its short but exciting history numerous soldiers, adventurers and pirates marched through its gates. Hear their stories come to life on this special guided tour during Heritage week 2026.

Meeting place: In front of the Dock Pub, Castlepark.
Under 18’s must be accompanied by an parent/guardian.
Please be aware the guided tour shall cover an area with uneven terrain, low lintels and slippery grass areas.
Suitable footwear is a must.
A good level of mobility is required.
